Dear Parents,
Parents really work hard to see their children are happy and successful. Happiness and success is the outcome of the kind of life one leads. A child may be studying till the age of 20 or more, but the rest of his life, which forms a major part, is defined by the career she/he chooses. Your child may become successful, but may not necessarily be happy. So when it comes to choosing the career path, only a career of interest or passion, will make your child happy. An enforced career, may give monetary gains in the short run, but in the long run, the happiness factor can go missing and the child will start wondering about the true essence of life. This is especially going to true, with Gen Z and Alpha. Moreover, in the this era of AI, many traditional jobs may become extinct and new jobs would require continuous learning. Earning and learning would be a continuous process, if you are in a profession of your interest – a profession that you are passionate about.
Career in Engineering, medical or any other conventional profession, may be source of happiness for few ,who are genuinely interested or passionate in those professions. But every child has his own interests/passion. She/he can excel in that field and still be happy and successful.
There are numerous such examples these days. With wide career options available, for this new generation, it is the responsibility of the parents and the mentors or teachers to guide or help the children, to take up the right career path rather than forcing them to take up the beaten track. A right career path does not mean the one, that yields maximum monetary returns – it means the one that will yield maximum happiness. A happy child will grow to be successful. So what is important is to focus on the happiness of the child and help them chose a career of their choice – something they are passionate about – something that will keep ticking on their career graph and will take their happiness graph upwards.
